Check the EPS service record through the member portal passbook or contact the EPFO office. Ensure total qualifying service (including any scheme certificate periods) is 10 years or more and that you have reached the minimum eligible age.
Download Form 10D from the EPFO website or collect it from the regional office. Fill in member details, bank details, and pension commencement date. If claiming reduced (early) pension, indicate so.
For members retiring from active service, the current employer must attest Form 10D, confirm the date of exit, and provide the PF account details. Employer signs and seals the form.
Submit the completed Form 10D along with all supporting documents (age proof, photographs, bank details, scheme certificates if any) to the EPFO regional office that has jurisdiction over the member's last establishment. Online filing is available via the member portal for Aadhaar-verified members.
The EPFO regional office verifies EPS service history, merges scheme certificate periods, and calculates the monthly pension based on the EPS formula: Pension = (Pensionable Salary × Pensionable Service) / 70. Sanction order is issued and PPO (Pension Payment Order) is generated.
PPO is dispatched to the pensioner and also sent to the bank for payment. First pension payment is credited to the bank account. Subsequent payments are made monthly, typically before the 7th. The pensioner must submit a life certificate (Jeevan Pramaan) annually by November 30 to continue pension.

For members who joined after September 2014, EPS pensionable salary is capped at ₹15,000/month unless they opted for the higher wage scheme (with employer consent). Many members expect a larger pension but receive the statutory minimum. Check the pension calculation before retirement planning.
Pension is suspended if the annual Jeevan Pramaan digital life certificate is not submitted by November 30. Submit it via Aadhaar biometric at the bank, post office, or via the Jeevan Pramaan app. Do not miss this deadline.
Breaks between jobs where EPF contribution was not made, or where EPS balance was withdrawn via Form 10C without preserving the scheme certificate, will reduce pensionable service. Review your full service history and submit all scheme certificates when filing Form 10D.
If you opt for early pension (age 50–57) under the reduced pension provision, the reduction of 4% per year is permanent. It cannot be reversed even after you turn 58. Consider financial implications before opting for early pension.
Family pension claims should be filed promptly after the member's death. Delays cause arrears accumulation and hardship. Ensure the member's e-Nomination is updated to include spouse and children so EPFO can process family pension quickly.
