Original documents: Carry originals only for in-person visits — do not hand them over permanently unless explicitly required.
Collect the relevant application form from the Gram Panchayat office (rural) or Ward office / ULB (urban). The form can also be downloaded from the state Social Welfare Department website or nsap.nic.in. IGNWPS and IGNDPS may use the same NSAP application form with the scheme box checked, or state-specific forms.
For disability pension applicants, obtain a Disability Certificate from the District Medical Board / CMO office specifying the type and percentage of disability. This is often a multi-step process — apply at the CMO office, attend a medical board assessment, and collect the certificate. Alternatively, the UDID (Unique Disability ID) card under the SADM portal serves as proof.
Submit the completed application form with all documents at the Gram Panchayat (rural) or Ward/ULB office (urban). The GP Secretary / Ward Officer acknowledges receipt and forwards it to the Block Development Officer (BDO) / Tehsildar for verification.
The BDO or Tehsildar verifies the applicant's eligibility — for IGNWPS: widow status, age, BPL status; for IGNDPS: disability certificate validity, age, BPL status. Field visits may be conducted. Documents are cross-checked against local records.
The DSWO reviews the BDO's recommendation and sanctions the pension. The beneficiary is entered into the NSAP MIS and added to the district pension roll. Sanction orders are issued and communicated to the bank and beneficiary.
Central government releases funds to the state government, which tops up and disburses via PFMS to the Aadhaar-linked bank account. Pension disbursement may be monthly or quarterly depending on the state. Beneficiaries must submit an annual Jeevan Pramaan (life certificate) to continue receiving pension.

The central IGNDPS benefit is available only for severe or multiple disability with 80%+ disability. Persons with 40–79% disability may be eligible for state-funded disability pension schemes but not for IGNDPS central funds. Apply under the right scheme.
Some states require a periodic declaration (annually or bi-annually) from the beneficiary and local authority that the widow has not remarried. Failure to submit this results in pension suspension.
The central IGNWPS/IGNDPS rate of ₹300/month is supplemented by states. Total pension ranges from ₹300 (low-contribution states) to ₹1,500–₹2,500 (high-contribution states like Delhi, Kerala, Telangana). Check the state Social Welfare Department website for the total pension rate.
Beneficiaries must submit a Life Certificate every November at the bank, CSC, or via the Jeevan Pramaan mobile app using face biometric. Missing the annual submission suspends the pension until the certificate is submitted.
The UDID process (medical board, certificate, and card issuance) can itself take 30–60 days. IGNDPS applicants should initiate the UDID process before or simultaneously with the NSAP application to avoid delays.
